Description:

This colorful box was painted by Boris Shavirin from the village of Fedoskino. It shows a scene from the popular Russian fairy-tale "Father Frost" or "Morozko". It tells about a little girl who was sent to the forest on a bitterly cold night by her cruel stepmother. The stepmother intends to kill the girl because she is more beautiful and hardworking than her own daughter. The end of the tale is happy; the girl is rewarded while her stepmother and stepsister are punished.
The scene painted on the box's lid depicts a girl in a winter forest. Not long ago her father has left her in the forest to die from cold by the order of his cruel wife. Later on ,when he will change his mind, and decided to return to the forest and bring his daughter home. When he found the place where he left her, he couldn't believe his eyes! His daughter was alive and dressed in rich, warm clothes...
The scene is painted in gray, light blue and white oil paints. The costume of the girl, a tree behind her and the owl are richly decorated with gold. A piece of green mother-of-pearl is shinning through the gir's dress, another piece of mother-of-pearl of white colour can be find in the skies behind the owl.
Rich gold line frames the composition. The box's sides are imitates the color of blue marble, while the interior of the box is traditionally red. The base of the box is painted black.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The box has a hinge to the left from the scene and rests on a flat base. It is signed with the artist's name, the village of Fedoskino and the year (2020).
