Description:

This incredible composition was painted by the highly talented Yevgeniy Vlasov. It is an original work that contains a scene from the Russian fairy-tale "Alyonushka and her brother Ivanushka". Although he painted this piece by himself, Yevgeniy often works together on boxes with his equally talented wife, Svetlana Vlasova.
The composition shows the moment of the story when Alyonushka meets the rich merchant and he inquires about her trouble. The girl tells him that her dear little brother has turned into a little goat after drinking from a goat's hoof filled with water. The merchant falls in love with Alyonushka and proposes marriage to her. Alyonushka agrees, and so they live happily with the little goat Ivanushka, till the wicked witch meddles in their unclouded happiness. She ensnares Alyonushka and throws her into the river with a big stone tired to her neck. But, fortunately, every fairy-tale ends happily: the wicked witch is punished, Ivanushka again turns into a boy and Alyonushka lives happily with her husband since then.
All of the greens of the forest are represented here. The exception is the characters and animals painted in reddish-orange tones. This creates a beautiful contrast in tones. It also brings out the characters in the center of the piece. The amount of gold and silver highlighting on this piece is astonishing! Each element is nearly engulfed in shimmering decoration, with the color beneath coming through just enough to properly show the color without losing any of the glow. The composition is complex in its structure. Besides the main characters, it includes different animals: rabbits, birds, a fox, a steed, architecture and diverse plants: skillfully painted trees, grass, flowers, mushrooms and bushes. The depth of the scene is created through the strict detailing of all of the features.
The ornamentation used to frame the lid's composition is a gem of a compliment. Intricate eruptions of thin golden and silver filigree decoration appear sculpted like the edges of a hand-carved picture frame. Another band of beauty runs around all four sides of the base. The design is made up of Byzantine-like filigree patterns, they appear a bit like royal golden crowns, that are accentuated by aluminum as their centers. Luxurious luster.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the composition, and the piece stands on a small platform. On the interior of the lid the artist adds an inscription in gold paint that is framed by a unique gold framing of floral designs. The inscription notes that this is an author original work by Vlasov, the title, a list of the materials, the village name of Kholuy and the year of 2004 of which the piece was finished.
