Description:

Mikhail Veselov from the village of Kholuy is the talented artist responsible for this hand crafted beauty. This wonderful example of animation has been produced on a minute scale of epic proportions. The talent is evident.
This scene is from the memorable tale of, "The Golden Cockerel." Tsar Dadon receives from a magic astrologer a golden cockerel and in return for it promises to fulfill any of the astrologer's wishes. The cockerel is magic; it crows to warn the tsar of approaching danger, thus enabling him to assemble troops and rebuff the enemy attack.
Veselov uses a wide range of colors from his palette, which makes this piece come to life. Each character is painted differently, so that there is variation in their faces and moods. Gold and aluminum paints are used to highlight the scene.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. Gold beading frames the scene, while gold ornamentation, with aluminum accents, wraps around the sides of the box. The box has a hinge above the composition and rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed and titled by the artist.
