Description:

This incredible box was painted by the highly talented Yevgeniy Vlasov. It is an original work that contains a number of scenes from the Pushkin's "Tale of Tsar Saltan". Although he painted this piece by himself, Yevgeniy often works on boxes together with his equally talented wife, Svetlana Vlasova.
The entire surface of the box is covered with skillfully painted scenes, except its bottom. At the lid's top three sisters sit inside the hut spinning yarn. Each of them dreams imagining what she would do if she were the tsar's wife. The tsar stands outside overhearing their conversation. The lid's sides feature Tsar Saltan's fleet approaching the rich island of Prince Gvidon. Here we also can see the hawk attacking the Princess Swan.
The box's sides feature other thrilling adventures from this thrilling tale, and various characters taking part in it. Here we can see the barrel swaying on the sea waves where the young tsaritsa and her child are sealed; the squirrel that all day long shells golden nuts, separating gold nutshells from emerald kernel of nuts; the thirty-three knights with their uncle old Chernomor, rising from the raging sea; Princess Swan appearing before the amazed Prince Gvidon in her human form; Prince Gvidon who travels to Tsar Saltan's kingdom turning into a bee; and, certainly, the feast arranged to celebrate the reunion of the family.
With an abundance of detail Vlasov gives the eyes a feast of information to digest. It is hard to conceive the amount of brushstrokes he made, the amount of blending and layering, or the constant re-working of the scenes to make them look perfect. Each of the scenes is an absolute delight. The details are enhanced tremendously by the golden contours illuminating each and every inch of the moment composed.
The bottom part of the box's sides is decorated with very intricate Byzantine-like gold and aluminum ornamentation. Luxurious luster. On the box's bottom the artist has painted an oval filled with gold filigree patterns. In the middle of it he has written in gold his name, a list of materials used, the title, the village name of Kholuy, the year of 2006, and the confirmation that this work is of original design.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid isn't hinged.
