This is another masterpiece of the prominent Kholui artist Yugeniy Dobrin. Each of its five sides features the scene from the Pushkin's Tale of Tsar Saltan. Here we can see Tsar Saltan overhearing the conversation of three sisters (the lid); the tsar's servants throwing the barrel into the sea with tsaritsa and Prince Gvidon sitting inside, Prince Gvidon who has saved the Princess Swan from the hawk and she appeared before him in her human form (the rear side); Prince Gvidon - the owner of the magic island and the husband of the beautiful Princess Swan (left side); Tsar Saltan approaching the magic island on board of his ship (the right side).
The drawing is quite fine, with small details in the characters' faces and costumes, some architecture and the landscape. Each scene is richly enhanced with gold metallic paint that adds a rich brightness to the work.
The box's exterior is decorated with intricate gold patterns accented with aluminum paint.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is at top, and the box rests on four legs.
At the bottom of the scene painted on the lid Dobrin has written his name, Kholui and the title. On the lid's interior he has written the same but added the year of 2007, the indication that this is his original work, and left his cursive signature to finalize this Kholuy miracle.
