The famous Kholui artist Ye. Dobrin painted this interesting box. It shows flood in the village of Khoui. Every spring the Teza River overflows its banks, and the small Russian village becomes very picturesque, and even can be compared with Italian Venice. The villagers move throughout the village using boats leaving their cars in the garages. The St. Trinity Church depicted in the background looks extremely beautiful then.
The box demonstrates the unique and recognizable Dobrin's style of painting. Turquoise blues and browns dominate here. Some of the details are enhanced richly with gold and silver paints.
Dobrin's skill as an artist is further demonstrated on the rich ornamentation that adorns the box. The edges of the lid are adorned with intricate gold scroll designs whereas the box's sides are decorated with even more complex gold floral ornaments accented with aluminum.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. Dobrin has signed, dated (2007) and titled (“Spring. Flood in Kholui”) his work on the lid. Inside the lid, he has again written the title, the year, and his name, as well as an indication that this is an original work. The finishing touch is a cursive signature to finalize this Kholuy miracle.
