Description:

This picturesque view of the Moscow Kremlin in winter has been painted by R. Ivakin from the village of Kholui. In the foreground we can see the St. Basil's Cathedral. In the background Ivakin has depicted a fragment of the red bricked wall with its towers and the Kremlin's white stoned cathedrals including (from left to right) the Assumption Cathedral, the Annunciation Cathedral, the Archangel Cathedral, the Belfry of Ivan the Great, the Senate Building, and some others.
The detail of the architecture is worked out with the utmost precision and is painted to the correct proportions. Brilliance of the cupolas and crosses of the cathedrals is achieved with the help of gold paint.
The edges of the lid are decorated with gold beads. A nice and intricate gold pattern wraps around the box's sides.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the top of the scene, and the box rests on four rounded legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, Kholui, and the title (“Moscow Kremlin”).
