The artist depicts one of the major moments of the fairytale "Prince Ivan and Grey Wolf", when Prince Ivan cathched the FireBird. We can see also sleeping guards(on a left side) and Grey Wolf (to the right).
Veselov uses a wide range of colors from his palette, which makes this piece come to life. Gold paint is used to highlight the scene, but is limned on in such a manner that it provides the palette with extra flair. Everything is detailed with the utmost precision. Each character appears as an individual, there is variation in the faces and moods of the people from left to right. The landscape and trees are also amazingly detailed.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while radiant red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box is not hinged.
The artist has written the title, Kholuy, 2004, and his name at the bottom of the composition. He also has done this on the interior of the lid, but added that this work is an artistic original.
