This box was painted in a dual effort by the married team of Svetlana and Yevgeniy Vlasov. These two possess some of the finest talent Kholuy has to offer.
The work is called "Fortune Telling with a Daisy", and shows the lad and the girl sitting on the bench in the backyard. Each of them holds a daisy in the hand. While tearing its white petals away they say the following words: “Does my sweetheart love me or not? Will he embrace me tenderly or will he say ‘Go to the devil!'” The words said while tearing the last petal away will be prophetic. This is a kind of child's fortune-telling.
With an abundance of detail the artists give the eyes a feast of information to digest. On the limited space of the box's exterior they have managed to find place for various animals and birds, and for a rich plant life. Fine golden contours make the details all the more amazing.
The box's black lacquered exterior is decorated with elegant gold ornaments. The interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the left of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. On the interior of the lid the artists have added a beautiful pattern of golden filigree which surrounds an inscription. The inscription lists the materials used, the authors' names and the fact that this is an artist original, the title for the piece, the village name of Kholuy and the year of 2007 of which the piece was finished.
