Strunin of Mstera is the talented master responsible for the delightful assortment of dazzling color and well defined decoration before you.
The box, entitled "Moscow" shows the main sights of Moscow that may be called the symbols of Moscow, and all Russia. The composition on the box's lid shows a boyar (court official) riding his steed. Behind him there is the grandiose panorama of the Moscow Kremlin. The sides of the box show the Moscow Kremlin on a large scale, including such famous buildings as the St. Basil's Cathedral, the Annunciation Cathedral, the Belfry of Ivan the Great, the Patriarch's Palace, the Assumption Cathedral, the red-brick walls and towers of the Moscow Kremlin, and also the Tsar Bell and the Tsar Cannon. The Kremlin is guarded by two couples of warriors dressed in costumes of an ancient Russian soldier and armed with ancient weapon.
The box is painted in traditional Mstera color palette that includes light blue, yellow, green, white, brown, red and pink. Gold paint is used to highlight some elements of the composition.
The box is made out of paper-mache made in Mstera. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the piece. The lid of the box removes easily without hinge. Gold floral ornamentation frames the scene on the lid. Another very similar design, but a little bigger in size, wraps around the sides of the lid. The box rests on a small platform. It is signed with the artist's name, village and title.
