This very detailed round box was painted by a talented Palekh artist Elena Bonokina.
Elena was born in 1986. Her favorite scenes to depict are folklore and genre scenes.
The composition features a young lad with an accordion and a girl that look at lad from an open window of the house. He is possibly inviting her to go out and join the other village youth. Painting is very much detailed and the gold details are amazing!
The brooch is made of paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box, while the interior of the box is painted red. The box is not hinged and rests flat. The work is signed with the name of the artist, the village of Palekh and the year of 2009.
